Enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) greatly increases the security on your account by requiring a unique, time-sensitive code every time you log in. In the event of someone obtains your username and password, they still cannot access your account without the 2FA verification code which helps to keep your Cryptocurrency safe.
If you don't have a 2FA App already or have questions on having a 2FA app, please see our guide to get started.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can activate 2FA on your account:
Step 1: Open Settings
- Log into your account at Cointree.
- Click the dropdown next to your username.
- Select Settings.
Step 2: Go to Security
One the Settings page, select the Security tab.
Step 3: Enable 2FA
On the security page, click Enable 2FA.
Step 4: Link Your Authenticator
On this page, you will see a QR barcode, and a long key code next to it in red. Follow these sub-steps to set up your 2FA app and verify the code:
- Open your 2FA App (e.g. Google Authenticator) on your mobile device.
- Scan the QR code displayed on-screen using your camera or manually enter the key printed in red.
- In your authentication app, you will now see a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds.
- Copy the 6-digit code from your authenticator app, then return to the Cointree window.
- Enter the 6-digit code into the Verification Code field on Cointree.
- Click Verify to finish setup.
And that's it! Your 2FA is now activated.
