YubiKey is a physical security device that is even more secure than standard two-factor authentication (2FA). And more convenient too. It follows the Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) protocol that strengthens and simplifies multi-factor authentication.
If you’re interested in using YubiKey as your preferred multi-factor authentication method, head over to the Security page to activate it. Once activated, you’ll need to use your YubiKey authentication code every time you login, helping further increase the protection of your account.
Note: you can only have one multi-authentication method activated, so if you have two-factor authentication (2FA) turned on, you’ll need to deactivate this first.
Enabling YubiKey (U2F)
Step 1: To set up YubiKey (U2F), head to Settings and then Security.
Step 2: Simply click ‘Enable YubiKey (U2F)’ to begin.
Step 3: Then enter your YubiKey code using the instructions for your YubiKey device. Usually this entails plugging the YubiKey into your device, and pressing it lightly to have it enter a code into the field.
And that’s it! Now you will be prompted to enter your YubiKey authentication code every time you login as shown below, helping further increase the protection of your account.
Disabling YubiKey (U2F)
Head to Settings and then Security.
Click the ‘Disable YubiKey (U2F)’ button.
You will then be prompted to enter your YubiKey code using the instructions for your YubiKey device. Usually this entails plugging the YubiKey into your device, and pressing it lightly to have it enter a code into the field.
Click ‘Disable’. Once done, you may activate 2FA or another YubiKey.
